Seeing God's Glory Through Faith

“Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?””

John 11:40

Reflection

In the quiet garden of Bethany, Jesus stood before a grieving sister, Mary, whose brother Lazarus lay in the tomb. He gently reminded her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?” (John 11:40). In that moment, the promise was not a vague hope but a direct invitation to witness the power of God in the midst of loss.

The phrase “if you believed” carries weight. Belief here is not a vague feeling but a trusting step toward the One who can turn death into life. Jesus assures Mary that her faith will open her eyes to the glory of God—a glory that transcends the sorrow of the present and points to a future where death is no longer the final word.

We often find ourselves in our own “Bethany” moments—times of pain, uncertainty, or waiting. The challenge is to hold onto that promise: believing does not guarantee an immediate answer, but it guarantees a view of God’s glory breaking through the darkness. When we choose to trust, we position ourselves to see miracles, however small, that reveal God’s character—His love, compassion, and power.

So let us walk forward with the confidence that our belief is the lens through which God’s glory becomes visible. Each step of faith, even when the outcome is unseen, is a step toward experiencing the divine light that turns our deepest grief into a testimony of hope.

Prayer

Lord, we thank You for the promise spoken in John 11:40. Help us to believe even when circumstances seem impossible, that we might see Your glory revealed in our lives. Strengthen our trust, open our eyes to the miracles You work, and fill our hearts with the peace that comes from knowing You are ever-present. May our faith be a beacon that draws others to Your wondrous love. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Application

  1. Identify a current situation where doubt or grief is overwhelming. Take a quiet moment to write down the specific fear, then ask God to help you trust His promise that belief will reveal His glory.

  2. Recall a past instance where you saw God's hand at work— no matter how small. Journal the details and thank Him for that glimpse of glory, reinforcing your confidence in His faithfulness.

  3. Choose one tangible act of faith this week: share your story of hope with a friend, serve someone in need, or pray boldly for a specific need, trusting that God will make His glory evident through your obedience.
