Strength in Weakness

“But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Reflection

Paul's testimony in this passage overturns every human instinct about strength and success. In a culture that celebrates self-sufficiency and hides vulnerability, God declares that His power is perfected precisely in our weakness. This is not a consolation prize for the inadequate—it is a divine strategy for displaying God's glory. When Paul pleaded three times for his "thorn in the flesh" to be removed, God's response was not healing but something better: sufficient grace. God did not remove the weakness; He transformed it into a platform for His power. This teaches us something revolutionary: our limitations are not obstacles to God's work—they are often the very channels through which His power flows most clearly. When we are strong in ourselves, we tend to rely on ourselves. But when we reach the end of our own resources, we are positioned to experience the supernatural sufficiency of God's grace.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I confess that I often hide my weaknesses, fearing they make me less useful to You. Today I bring them into the light of Your grace. Thank You that Your power is not limited by my limitations. Help me to stop striving in my own strength and to lean fully on Yours. May my weaknesses become showcases of Your glory, so that all who see my life will marvel not at me, but at You. Amen.

Application
